Village Music of Wellington has a lot to celebrate right now. They have been named New Retail Store of the year by Music and Sound Retailer! They accepted the award at the 2014 Winter NAMM convention in Anaheim, California. This year's summer camps are underway and the first of 3 groups had a great time. Jason is doing the 2nd half of Wednesday's class from 12-3pm for both of the remaining camps. It's great to see the kids get excited about rhythm, drums, and percussion! Be sure to check out Village Music of Wellington for more info and reviews of this year's camp.
Jason has done a series of shows with Chloe Dolandis, a talented singer/songwriter out of Southeast Florida that is a powerhouse performer and master vocalist. The group performs mostly original songs off of her current album 'Bring Back the Fever', but any great number of covers and standards can be heard during their high energy shows. Check her out at chloedolandis.com for more info. The next performance with Jason on drums is scheduled for July 4th at 'W' in Fort Lauderdale from 6-9pm.
We here at jasonstander.net wish you a Happy Fourth of July and hope you stay safe and catch some live music! And be sure to look around. New Bands, Couch to Rock Band, and the Jammy Awards!
There has been a lot going on with Jason the past few months. He has settled into the scene in south Florida and everything from new bands and recording projects to a new music school are rapidly taking off. The calender is starting to fill quickly. Be sure to check it out!
Creative music is something Jason loves to be involved with. The new band 'Junk' embraces creativity in both writing and performance. Rooted in high energy electric rock with psychedelic, world, progressive, and pop culture undertones, nothing seems to be off limits to the three musicians that make up the band. On guitar and keys is Mark Mayea, a classically trained pianist and accomplished guitar player that enjoys sonic textures and fuzzed out electric tones. Ross Rucker Jr. pushes the envelope further with his own set of sounds that range from light saber fighting robots to the clean vibrations of days past. When together with Jason the band can be anything at anytime, making them a must see act for any fan of creative music! Check the calender for dates.
Public Sounds Collective is a funky soul-jazz project that is both sophisticated and raw. The line up includes Markis Hernandez on saxophones/flute, Kevin Cripanuk playing trombone, Chris Patsis on the bass, Mark Mayea on keys, and Jason hitting the tubs. Each member of the group is accomplished in their instruments and exhibit strong song writing skills. With a rapidly growing original music repertoire and covers like Herbie Hancock's 'Palm Grease' or Roy Hargrove's 'Bop Drop', this quintet is taking the Florida music scene by storm.
Jason has been playing percussion quite a bit since his week long adventure with Billy Martin. Now he has joined forces with The Helmsmen, a group of talented musicians whose style dabbles around in roots, reggae and world music. The percussion setup he performs on has a ton of home made and one of a kind instruments. Look for dates starting in December.
The Tuesday Night Jam Sessions at Swampgrass Willy's is about to celebrate it's first year with Jason as host. This night has been a weekly creative release for so many of us. A great scene has taken shape with a ton of talent from all styles and walks of life. From killer horns and epic fusion style jam sessions to Popeye the Sailor Man, nothing is taboo. Mark Mayea and Ross Rucker Jr have been doing an amazing job as house rhythm section and make sure your supported like Trumps ex wifes. As part of our celebration we will be hosting the first ever Swampgrass Willy's Jammy Awards! Jammers that have graced the stage in the past should be sure to attend. There's probably an award waiting for you. Your wonderful talents and support of this night is why it has been so successful. Jason knows he cannot do it without you and will use this night as a thank you! Tell your friends and any past jammers you know to put it on their calender. IT WILL BE EPIC!
Education has always been a big part of life for our favorite drummer. From working privately with students to masterclasses and summer camps, JASON LOVES TO TEACH! This is why we are so excited to announce that Jason has been named Director of Music at 'Couch to Rock Band'. CTRB is a music education program where the goal is to get kids off of their couches and get them ROCKIN! The performance program runs jam sessions once a week for 3-4 hours to get the kids ready for their final performance at week 8. We provide professional music industry insight and guidance to get the group where it needs to be for the show. In addition to the performance program, there will be music camps and workshops that focus on song writing, performance, and recording. Be sure to check out the website for more information. You can find a link on the 'Links' page.
We here at jasonstander.net hope you have a music filled fall! Get out and support the local scene.

Shows, camp illyb, New Recordings!
There is a lot of exciting things going on for Jason in the near future. We'll start with a ONE NIGHT ONLY performance with the great art rock guitarist Todd Clouser and bassist Adam Lucas at the Funky Buddha in Boca Raton, FL on July 25th at 8pm. Jason has been billed with both members of this musically elite trio in the past and considers them to be some of the finest musicians he's made noise with. The excitement of having all three of these guys on stage together is electrifying and can be felt throughout the south Florida creative music scene. Local reggae/rock/funksters Rundowntown will be getting things started at 8pm. Please DO NOT MISS IT!
There is a little jazz in Jason's future! The Gianni Bianchini Quartet featuring Jason Stander will make their mark at the Clematis St. branch of the Palm Beach public library July 12th at 5:30pm. Gianni is a gifted pianist that has studied with greats the likes of Jean-Michel Pilc, Kenny Werner, and Stefon Harris. He has performed with guitar legend John Scofield, Ron McClure, and Ralph Lalama. Jason is looking forward to this one!
Swampgrass Willy's in Palm Beach Gardens recently celebrated 6 MONTHS of Tuesday Night Jam Sessions hosted by Jason! We've seen it all on Tues. night, from first timers to goosebump inducing jams with seasoned music legends. There has been lot's of funk, blues, and top 40 but we've also been witness to face shattering metal, ultra wavy, neck snapping hip hop, country, folk rock/americana, reggae, and even a bit of creative improvisational music. You never know what your going to see! Come out and BE HEARD every Tuesday night at Swampgrass Willy's.
Jason has been studying with drummer/percussionist/film maker/artist Billy Martin for almost 3 years now. In August he will venture up to Billy's studio for 4 days of intense learning and recording for an upcoming Amulet Records release. Brazilian percussionist and performance artist Cyro Baptista will be a guest artist and will be sharing his knowledge as well. This is going to be the educational and recording highlight of the year for Jason, without a doubt.
Speaking about recordings, Jason has finished with the first installation of spontaneous compositions on drum set. These recordings are completely raw and were performed live. They are an autobiogaphy of sorts with inspiration drawn from different significant events that shaped Jason's life. His good friend Randy Pytel is the recording engineer for this series. With a great set of ears and an intimate knowledge of Jason's sound and goals, Randy has captured the unique sonic textures that the Cyclone Drums, Soultone Cymbals, and Powerful Drums percussion produce in the hands of our favorite creative drummer. Check back soon for a release date for vol 1. Randy is also working with Jason on a series of Break beat albums due for release early in 2014.

Jason Teaching at Village Music! Namm Wrap-up, New Soultone Cymbals and more
Jason checking out 'Powerful Drums' at NAMM2013
There is a new musical instrument store in Wellington, Fl that has all the good looks and low prices of a large chain, but is family owned and operated! Village Music of Wellington is the name and we are excited to announce that Jason is now teaching drums there. Lessons are reasonably priced and can be 30 minutes or an hour. If you've ever thought about studying with him, now is the time. The schedule is filling up fast! He also plans on doing FREE drum clinics there throughout the year so be sure to check back for dates and times.
Jason made it out to Anaheim, Ca last month for the annual NAMM convention. It is always a good time and this year proved to be the best so far! He was out in full force with Drummerconnection.com and got to try out some amazing gear from our good friends at Soultone Cymbals and Gator Cases! Fri. he was involved in a spontaneous B3 jam in hall D with a killer player we knew as Mr Willis. On Saturday night the crew was invited out to Backline Recording Studios in Long Beach for some drumming mayhem. There are videos being put together of the madness that occurred and you should be able to view them in the videos section soon. Jason would like to thank Gator Cases, Soultone Cymbals, Drummerconnection.com, and Backline studios for all the great hospitality and for making it happen.
The complete set of Soultone Cymbals has arrived! Jason chose the Vintage Old School line with a patina finish in very thin weights. Sizes include a 21” crash/ride, a 19” crash/ride, and 14” hi-hats with a medium thin bottom and very thin top. He also picked up a 9” Extreme Series splash while out at NAMM! These cymbals have a wonderfully dark and smokey sound with a ton of stick definition and hints of trash. You can come and hear them weekly at the Swampgrass Willy's Tuesday Night Jam Sessions or you can check them out on future recordings and at performances. A HUGE thanks to Iki, Laura, and everyone else at Soultone cymbals for inviting me into the family and making me feel at home.
The Swampgrass Willy's Tuesday Night Jam Session is going into it's 6th week and has enjoyed some AMAZING support by both musicians and the local music scene. There have been great musical moments and the usual jam night mischief with players coming out from all over the country! This week a new blues project Jason is involved in named 'Last Call' will be playing a small set. It's growing all the time and people are connecting in ways that help shape and keep a music scene healthy. Come out and take advantage of the 20% “in the Biz” discount for all musicians that hit the stage. BE HEARD!
Jason and Todd Clouser got together off the radar and played a little creative music last week. There are rumors of plans for another tour in the summer. These two are a force to be reckoned with when they get going. Check back for updates on that and much more soon. Thanks for reading and get out and express yourself! Life is Art, Music is Art, and Music is Life!

Each night things heated up more, both in musical intensity, and audience attendance/participation. They played material from all of Todd's records with a focus on the new tunes that will be coming out February 19th when 'The Naked Beat' drops. There is a soundboard recording floating around from Sat. night and a video somewhere on YouTube from Friday at the Funky Biscuit. Todd's 'A Love Electric' has been tearing up the international creative music circuit ever since their debut self-titled release back in 2011. The two of them knew the chemistry was right and that they would be getting together again in the future. Joining them on bass will be Chris Bates. An amazingly talented bassist from Minnesota that has played behind some big names including Ari Hoenig, Lee Konitz, Steven Bernstein, and Joe Lovano. These dates have been announced! We're really thrilled to announce that Jason is now playing Soultone Cymbals exclusively! That's right! He's joined the Soultone family of drummer/percussionists. Camp MMW Review, New Project, New Cyclone Snare Drum!
Jason had the honor of attending this year's Camp MMW at Full Moon Resort in NY. The band behind the event(Medeski, Martin and Wood) has been a long time favorite of his. This was what he shared with me about the experience:
"Camp MMW! WOW! These guys have been my absolute favorite modern band since I first heard them back in 98'. They've been doing the camp for 5 years now and I've wanted to go BADLY every year. When Billy told me about the scholarship to go, I knew it would be the educational highlight of my life. I was right. There was so much information packed into the 4 days. It will take the rest of my life to fully absorb the knowledge they laid on me. The guests, John Scofield and Ned Rothenberg, added their own take on finding your own voice and were equally inspirational. They were all very personable and engaging, willing to spend time with me when I had a question about anything.
I had the pleasure of being in Chris Wood's ensemble! This was perfect for me. Out of the three of them, Chris has the most intense and structured approach. We took a field recording of a chain gang and put a James Brown feel to it, with a second part in which Chris directed the band. I got to play both the drum kit and percussion during the piece. One of the highlights for me was playing with Chris Wood as he taught the parts to the other students.
The students who I met throughout the week quickly became friends of mine. There were so many like-minded musicians there. Some of the jams were incredible! Both the Full Moon Resort staff and Team MMW were very helpful and equally engaging. I hope to stay in touch with many of these people throughout my life.
In the end, this experienced exceeded any notion I had about what it could have been. I would like to thank all of the people who made it happen including Kenny, Liz, Jennifer, and Jeb! And a HUGE thanks to John Medeski, Billy Martin, and Chris Wood for sharing their ideas and perspectives so willingly. You've helped me embrace what it means to be an artist, and broadened my thoughts and ideas about creating music. Thank you so much!
_Jason Stander "
South Florida is proving to be a great place for drummers! Jason has had an overwhelming response to his presence in the area. He has joined forces with Psychedelic Zoo, a new trio consisting of Klaudiophile on electronics/samples/keys, Sammy Zuniga on bass/keys, and Jason on drums/percussion. Their first show together will be "Freedom Exposed," an art installation being held Oct. 20th at Iwan Tobethebubble in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. There are many shows in the works for this group so check back often for date announcements. Jason will also be playing Tues. Sept 11th in Coconut Grove,Fl at the Sandbar with Ramblin' Jennings as part of an improvisational blues/jazz performance.
Drummer Connection founder and CEO Eric Rosebrock called Jason and asked him to head out to DC headquarters to test out Evans' new Black Chrome drum heads. The result is a small demonstration video in which he plays each drum for a moment, followed by three videos of improvised linear solos. "Camp MMW!

They had a great time doing the demo and jamming in the DC drum room. You can check it out in the Video section or HERE! OBJ 2012 recap, "Some Music We Made" released, Jason Wins Scholarship to Camp MMW, and more!
Orange Blossom Jamboree took place over 4 beautiful days from May 17th through the 20th, 2012. Jason played Fri night on the main stage with Green Sunshine to a large, energetic and engaged crowd. Sunday was no different as he took the stage with some of Florida's most well known regional artists in a secret band billed as "The Estimated Prophets." Joining him was Adam Lucas and Russ Bowers - Honey Henny Lime, Darryl Quesenberry - Funky Seeds, and Dave Gerulat and Dennis Stadleman - Cope. Jason enjoyed every minute of it as can be seen in some pics from the performance. You can find them in the photos section of this website.
We got some exciting news a few days ago - Jason has received a scholarship to go to Camp MMW this year! If you are not familiar with the camp, please check it out here. A huge thanks goes out to the people who have helped make this happen.
Jason will be relocating to South Florida in the next coming month! That's what I said. He's bringing that unmistakeable, gritty, from the soul drum sound that he has become so well known for to the Miami/ Ft. Lauderdale area. He will also be opening a drum school for artistic drummers/percussionists. Check back soon for more on this.
The album Jason recorded on with No End of Now entitled "Some Music We Made" has been released and is getting some great reviews. You can pick up a copy from CD Baby or the No End of Now web page. Here are a couple blurbs.
"No End of Now is a musical experience like no other. Their album Some Music We Made is an hour trip to a place of musical greatness that has no rival that will leave you hitting the replay button again and again. No End of Now’s Some Music We Made is absolutely phenomenal. This album is a work of art like the masterpieces that are stored in museums worldwide and, like them, should be studied, analyzed, and, most importantly, enjoyed for time to come. 5/5 stars"
_Brian Mckinnon, Muzikreviews.com
"...they reach deep into their unified creativity, interacting in a way that lifts the music up and raises the level of audience engagement at the same time."
_Matthew Warnock - Ariel Publicity
And last but not least, Green Sunshine is continuing to perform and write new music. They'll be in Union Point, Ga for this year's Impulse Music and Arts Festival. You have two chances to see them Thurs. June 14th! First at the Orpheum in Ybor City opening for Orgone, and then at Crowbar(also Ybor) with Lingo. Get out and dig into some live music.

No End of Now records an album! Green Sunshine's very own music festival!
@Cleartrack Studios w/No End of Now
Jason has been having a great time playing with No End of Now. He describes the chemistry between Rex, John, and himself as "unique" and "exciting". The band went to Cleatrack Studios in Clearwater, Fl to capture the new sound. Here's what Jason had to say:
"Mike, Spencer, Daniel, and everyone else at Clear Track Studios took world-class care of us, providing the ideal atmosphere to create and perform music. They went above and beyond to dial in the drums exactly how I like them to sound."
_Jason Stander
This material should be available as early as April. We'll keep you updated as the album develops. The band had a great time at Yeomen's on Davis Island and plan to announce more shows in the near future.
Green Sunshine will be hosting their first annual "Jammin' on the Green - 420 Music Festival" in Land O' Lakes, Fl. This will be a three day music festival with 8 hours of music per day, arts, crafts, and food vendors. Be sure to check back soon. The band line-up and ticket costs will be announced in the next week or so. And be sure to catch them this weekend and next in South Fl including Jam Fest 2012 at The Stage in Miami, Fl and Spring Break Reggae Fest in Ponce Inlet, Fl.
Jason will be getting some new goodies from his friends at Cyclone Drums and Gator Cases. There is a 12x5" Cyclone Drums snare in Gold Glass Glitter made to match his existing setup. He's picked a thin 8-ply Keller VSS maple shell so the little snare is as sonic as the rest of the setup. And there is a new hardware case and cymbal vault from Gator Cases on their way to keep his stands and cymbals from getting beat up by the road.
There are new pics in the multimedia section, a handful of new show announcements, and a few new lessons up. Look around, thanks for stopping by, and come back soon!

More From The Road, Show Announcements, and More!
Dragon's Den had Zoo fever!
Worldwide Zoo went back to New Orleans for a couple performances and stopped at the Squeaky Lizard in Ocean Springs, MS in between nights. First up was the Den at Howlin' Wolf Saloon where they had a blast with the Cliff Hines Quintet. The night was recorded by Steve Richardson of Music from Last Night. A copy of the show should be available on Worldwide Zoo's website soon, so make sure to look for that. After that it was off to Ocean Springs, MS for a night of ruckus and rump shakin' at The Squeaky Lizard. They shared the bill with Tweed Strings and Enjoy the Weather. Both bands were awesome and kept the people dancing with their high energy sets. Then back to NOLA for an evening with a very engaging audience at the Dragon's Den. The Zoo felt the love and returned it with a mixture of improvisations and new tunes that kept the party going. We could not say enough about how great the management and staff were at both The Squeaky Lizard and the Dragon's Den. Worldwide Zoo will be returning to the region as part of their "Back From Space" 2011 tour. They'll be at the Lizard on Fri. Aug 12th and will be playing both the Louisiana Music Factory and 12 Bar in New Orleans Aug 13th. With a handful of other dates scheduled for the tour, please check out the Band Events Calender for more dates. Jason also picked up a new crash/ride while in New Orleans that is a new favorite. Check out the Cymbals page for a gander. Also check out the new pics from the Zoo's performance at Local 662 with J2K, shot by Clint Bliss of SeeBliss Photography.

Your approach to teaching is the best I've yet to encounter. The advice, practices, and principles you shared with me will stay in my playing forever. Your ability to recognize my weak points and offer ways to correct them shows a deep understanding of the education process. I couldn't thank you enough. I look forward to the next time we can do it.

THE GREEN PARTY! Green Sunshine and Greenhouse Lounge are getting together for a Kind Bud Thursdays Special Performance! This FREE show will be at Beach Bar - Clearwater on Thurs. Feb 24th. Doors are at 9pm and the show starts at 10pm.
The final specs on the new Jason Stander-Cyclone Drums drum set are here. Jason went back out to Cyclone Drums headquarters and had a chance to see his kit prior to assembly. The 8ply maple shells produced an amazing tone when struck on the side. The Gold Glass Glitter wrap was equally stunning and the tube lugs and chrome hardware tied it all together. This kit should be on the road in the next few weeks.
Once again Jason would like to thank Cyclone Drums for the beautiful sounding drums and all of the artist support:
"Incredible tone, master craftsmanship, and workhorse durability are all things that make Cyclone Drums my top choice. I am proud to be a part of the family and play such high quality drums. Thanks for all your hard work and support.
_Jason"

Finished Studio Tracks are now Coming In!!!
Worldwide Zoo's brilliant Recording Engineer Jonathan Leon is now turning in the first Zoo tracks from their much anticipated freshman release. There is a sneak peek available in the Music section. I've never heard the band captured like this and I've heard them a lot. I think I'm more excited than Jason! He elected to take a small version of the 71' Duo Rock outfit, and of course the Cyclone snare drum. Have a listen. We'll have more on a release date as things shape up.
WORLDWIDE ZOO hits the studio and records an album!
Worldwide Zoo hit the studios on Thursday October 22, 2009 and recorded their official debut release. They had a great crew, amazing sound engineer, and deluxe studio accommodations. Recorded live with no tracking of any kind nor overdubs, the Zoo put their magic to the test. The result was a true picture of this bands musical brilliance, captured in the highest recording quality.
The NEW Cyclone Snare Drum has arrived!!!!
Jason is extra excited about his new custom Cyclone Drums snare drum. Check the drums page for details on build and materials. And, in the days to come he will be posting some of his own thoughts on this new instrument.
Jason joins the CYCLONE DRUMS family!!!
Cyclone Drums and it's Founder/Master Builder/CEO Brian Bernard have earned a well deserved reputation for superb sounding, master quality drums. Jason has played several snare drums and complete sets in different configurations, and considers them to be the best sounding drums money can buy. He is convinced Brian can help you realize any drum sound your taste calls for. A new Cyclone Drums snare drum is on it's way and Jason is losing sleep thinking about that "sweet Cyclone tone". More on Brian and Cyclone drums can be found at his website(click on the pic or go to links page). Below are some more pics of the Cyclone Drums tour.
Jason got to pick out his own shell and decided to go with a 8-ply maple shell that will be 14x6". He likes a thinner snare drum as he says they "sing more". These are high quality shells that produce a wonderful tone when struck on the side with your hand. Of course when working with Brian, he allows the drummer to fully customize size, shell thickness, bearing edge, lug type, rim type, throw- off style, strainer, finish(wrap/laquer), and more. He should have enough of this shell left for your snare.
Jason would like to thank Brian, wife Jennifer, and family for being such gracious hosts. They are truly wonderful people. Brian's joy of life spills over into his craftsmanship and the quality is undeniable. Jason is proud to be part of the Cyclone drums family!
Jason is now drumming with GREEN SUNSHINE!
We know Jason likes to keep busy and is always looking for exciting new groups to play with. This band has a sound that he just had to be a part of. All the things you'd expect from Jason: Funk, Breakbeat, Rock, and Jazz mixed up and boiled down. Check the "Current Projects" tab in the menu for more details.
